Class 3 History Visit

February 6, 2025Admin

Class 3 had a fun filled day today with a visit from History into Schools.  A Roman gladiator time travelled from ancient Rome to teach us all about Roman soldiers, entertainment and customs.  We enjoyed looking at artefacts, dressing up as centurions, practicing Roman army tactics with shields and gladiator fighting amongst many other brilliant…

Class 3 Rock Cycle Investigations

February 6, 2025Admin

This week Class 3 have been learning about the rock cycle and we recreated this using Starburst sweets.  We started with IGNEOUS ROCKS which weathered and eroded into sediments.  Compaction made these small pieces of rocks into SEDIMENTARY ROCKS. Then heat and pressure made them into METAMORPHIC ROCK.  Finally, the rocks and were melted into…

Kents Cavern

June 25, 2024Admin

Class 3 enjoyed a brilliant trip to Kents Cavern last week.  We had a fascinating tour of the underground caves and learnt so many facts about Stone Age people and William Pengelly, the Victorian archeologist who excavated the caves.  We had great fun handling neanderthal skulls and flint hand axes and really enjoyed being history detectives in…

Class 3’s trip to Dartmoor

May 17, 2024Admin

Class 3’s trip to the misty moors of Dartmoor gave us the perfect inspiration  for our Dartmoor legends writing this term.  We trekked up to Smallacombe Rocks, a Bronze Age settlement and learned about why people settled and how they used the natural resources to survive.  On the way we spotted oil beetles, bluebells, gorse and…

Discovering Dartmoor

April 25, 2024Admin

Class 3 are loving our Discovering Dartmoor topic.  We have been using alliteration and rhetorical questions to write a persuasive leaflet to encourage people to come and visit.  So far we’ve written about Tremendous Tors, Raging Rivers and Panoramic Picturesque Landscapes.  Well done to the children who have made wonderful models of Dartmoor for their home…

Science Week in Class Three

March 12, 2024ashleigh.smith@ivyeducationtrust.co.uk

For Science week, Class Three have been fizzing and popping to answer the enquiry, “Do gases have mass?”.  We measured the weight of some fizzy drinks, (making sure we kept lots of variables the same, such as: same bottle, same drink).  Then we shook the bottles as hard as we could to remove the gas. …

Victorian Day at Morwellham Quay.

November 15, 2023Admin

This term Class 3 had an exciting visit to the Victorian village at Morwellham Quay in Tavistock.  The children had the opportunity to immerse themselves completely in this Victorian experience.  We tried on Victorian clothing and discovered that not all clothing in Victorian times was equal! Rich Victorians wore brightly coloured garments made from silk…

September 26, 2023Admin

As part of their English work on biographies of Fantastic Women who have changed the World, Class 3 have been learning about Emmeline Pankhurst and her part in the Suffragette movement.  We have made rosettes in the colours of the suffragettes and thought of key ideas we would like to improve or action in our…

National Marine Aquarium Visit

July 19, 2023Admin

Class 3 enjoyed an amazing visit to the Aquarium this term.  As well as seeing sand tiger sharks up close and personal, we were really lucky to spot the new arrivals at the Aquarium – the sea horses.  We found out some amazing facts about sharks, eels and upside down jellyfish!  In the morning Class 3 took…

Rocks and Rumbles

February 24, 2023Admin

Class 3 have been enjoying their new Geography topic “Rocks and Rumbles”.  Today we learned about the structure of the Earth and constructed (not to scale!) models of the Earth showing the inner core, outer core, mantle, oceanic crust and continental crust.  The children worked patiently and enthusiastically, rolling out their plasticine carefully to wrap…
