Class 3’s trip to the misty moors of Dartmoor gave us the perfect inspiration for our Dartmoor legends writing this term. We trekked up to Smallacombe Rocks, a Bronze Age settlement and learned about why people settled and how they used the natural resources to survive. On the way we spotted oil beetles, bluebells, gorse and bracken and learned about the biodiversity of plant and animal life on the moor. In the afternoon we stomped past Hound Tor and reached the Bowerman’s Nose where we heard the legend of the same name. It was very atmospheric with the mist rolling over the hills as we listened. Despite the downpours, all the children showed great resilience and were full of laughs and enthusiasm about the ponies, sheep and llama that greeted us along the way! Well done everyone!
