Ways to make 10

May 16, 2017Jo Hussain

Class 1 have been stretching their brains by finding ways to make 10 and writing number sentences.  We are amazing at this!  Did you know that 8+2 makes 10 and so does 2 +8?!  We do!

Making boats in Class 1

May 16, 2017Jo Hussain

Class 1’s Ship Ahoy topic has led us to finding out what makes boats go.  We explored forces by making our own boats and finding ways to make them get from one side of our water tray to the other. We tried blowing, pushing, flapping and making waves in the water to move our boats. …

The power of music and dance

April 28, 2017Jo Hussain

As part of Mental Health Week children have been learning about the positive impact singing and dancing can have on our well being.  The whole school learnt about what happens to our brain when involved in song and dance and then put this to the test. They sang and danced and it all ended with…

Buckfast Abbey trip

March 30, 2017Jo Hussain

Classes 1 and 2 went along to Buckfast Abbey to hear A Donkey’s Tale – the Easter Story.  We also did some Easter art and craft and explored the Abbey and grounds. We had a lovely, busy day but our packed lunches were still quite a highlight.

We’ve sprung a leak!

March 16, 2017Jo Hussain

Class 1 decided to investigate our school’s leaky pipes.  The workmen kindly told us about the problem and how they were trying to fix it.  They showed us the type of new pipe they were fitting and have given us the old piece with the leak in it to have a look at.

Plant hedging

March 16, 2017Jo Hussain

Classes 1 and 2 rolled up their sleeves and planted a row of blackthorn saplings. The plan is to grow a hedge to start bringing some life into the new mulched area outside of class 2. Once each sapling was planted firmly in the ground, the children had to position a stake and protect the…

Secret Storytellers

March 6, 2017Jo Hussain

Every Thursday a secret story teller makes their way to Class 1 with their favourite story tucked under their arm.  We always look forward to the surprise of which parent or Grandparent will walk through our door.  It’s lovely to have different people read their favourite stories with us; thank you for helping us discover…

Come and play.

February 21, 2017Jo Hussain

Class 1 invited parents, grandparents and carers to come and join them in their play. They joined in with the general mischief as well as phonics, dough disco, maths and circle time.  Thank you for coming to play with us.

Lotions and potions.

February 21, 2017Jo Hussain

As part of our Magic and Mystery topic, Class 1 have been exploring what happens when you mix different ingredients and liquids together.  We added a little bit of this and a little bit of that to create magic potions; potions that can give invisibility, super speed and turn you into a rabbit! We wrote…

Getting physical in Class 1!

February 21, 2017Jo Hussain

Class 1 have been developing all manner of physical skills with Mr Tyrell in PE. We’ve been sliding, balancing, going forwards and backwards and learning how to dismount with control, and in different ways, from the benches. Our confidence is growing and we are trying hard to stretch what our bodies can do.
