To celebrate World Refugee Day the whole school took part in two separate assemblies, lead by our visitor, Lizi. She talked to the staff and children about what it means to be a refugee including the dangers they face when fleeing their homes. We were shocked to learn how many children are among the number of refugees seeking a better life somewhere else in the world.
KS1 children watched a film and a puppet who really made them think about what it would feel like if they had to flee their homes. Afterwards, they decided what was most precious to them and drew what they would take in a suitcase.
It was lovely to hear about some of the great things individual refugees have done for us in the UK. Did you know that the Mini, the quintessentially British car and Fish and Chips were both creations of two refugees? Neither did we!
