We have been learning about woodland animals.
We had the wonderful opportunity to handle real rabbits when Mrs Roberts brought her litter of baby rabbits into class. We used our investigative skills to find out about the rabbits.
These are some of the words we used to describe them;
‘soft, fluffy, silky, wriggly, scratchy, lovely, cute’
‘One of the children observed that the rabbits ‘spine is long and like a hill.’
For some of us it was the first time we had held a rabbit;
‘I’d never held a rabbit before now I feel proud.’
We asked questions;
‘Why do rabbits have whiskers?’
‘How do you know if it’s a girl or a boy?’
‘How many babies can a mother rabbit have?’
We looked on the internet for some of the answers to these questions.
I was really impressed with Class 1s gentle handling of the rabbits, thoughtful questioning and fantastic observations.
After we had handled the rabbits we of course remembered to wash our hands!
