Our Allotment Club leader, Georgina, continues to find brilliant things for the children to do.
Last week, during a chilly after school session, she got the children hunting high and low for natural things to make up layers in their own sweet jar compost heaps. The children had to gather brown and green leaves and stalks and used cardboard and sawdust to help layer their composters. They will check on their progress, weekly.
This week was much milder and lead to a more table based activity of making bird feeders. First, the children loosened the seeds from dried sunflower heads. They then mixed the seeds and some dried mealworm into lard and finally stuffed the mixture into large pine cones. The feeders were amazing – we hope the birds think so too!
